The city of Atlantis, which is made of concentric circles as described by Plato's dialogues, is the "smoking gun" for candidates of the lost city of Atlantis.
A mile high cliff nearly vertical in incline that towers over the St. Croix Basin
A 1,400 ft high pyramid with steep incline that rises above the Caribbean seafloor with its base at a depth of 16,000 ft.
The Venezuelan Plain, which constitutes the easternmost part of the Caribbean Basin, was the domain of the lineage of Atlas, the first son of Poseidon. The remainder of the Caribbean Basin was Atlantis proper, while the Gulf of Mexico was its northwestern frontier.
The Muertos Trough is a deep trench with a steep, 2000 ft high incline on its southern boundary that runs almost perfectly parallel with Earth's latitude lines. It is situated in the Venezuelan Plain and echoes Plato's description of the plain having a "ditch" that was so deep that it defied imagination. The capital city of Atlantis is located near the eastern end of the Muertos Trough.
The Venezuelan Plain matches description of Plato's rectangular oblong of 2000 x 3000 stadia, or around 230 x 340 miles. Its average depth is around 16000 ft and it is surrounded by mountains on all four sides as was described by Plato in his dialogues. They are the Elysian Fields of Greek mythology.
Bifröst is the legendary rainbow bridge in Norse mythology from Midgard, the Earth below, to Asgard, the Heavens above. This feature indeed rises from the basin's depths to the sea level lands above, and has rainbow-like arcs extending throughout its length.
The central plain of Atlantis in the domain of Atlas was said to have been watered by canals extending into the mountains surrounding it that brought down the winter rains. Here are the canals and the irrigation system that Plato spoke of. Above is Puerto Rico, which would have been the northern mountains bounding the Venezuelan Basin.
The Virgin Island Trough is the deep underwater valley between Puerto Rico and the island Saint Croix (of the U.S. Virgin Islands). The walls of the Virgin Islands Trough rise high just below the sea level today, in a remarkable masterpiece of architectural beauty.
The Cuban Underwater City, situated in the western Caribbean near the southwesternmost tip of Cuba at a depth of around 2,300 ft deep, was discovered in 2001 by Paulina Zelitsky and Paul Weinzweig of ADC Digital Communications. This was the first settlement of Atlantis discovered.
How a chilhood passion for STEM and the ancient mysteries of our past made a boy from the Southern California suburbs catch Atlantis mania.
Find out more about my intellectual journey, who I am, and my overall theory that places Atlantis in the heart of the Caribbean Basin by reading Solon. It is a philosophical dialogue written in the style of Plato himself, from whom the story of Atlantis was first introduced to the Western world in written form.
Plato wrote two dialogues, the Timaeus and Critias on the subject of Atlantis. He left the Critias unfinished, and since then there has been a long-running debate as to whether Atlantis was fact or fiction. Through the ages, a consensus has emerged that it was rooted in historical natural disasters dating back to a less ancient past, but that it was not a true account of a civilization existing at the end of the last Ice Age.
Solon is my answer to Plato's two dialogues on Atlantis, and the completion of his unfinished work that presents a provocative claim. Atlantis was a civilization that inhabited a formerly dry below sea level Caribbean basin, and was destroyed when the Caribbean Sea formed as it exists today at the end of the last Ice Age.
We think of Atlantis as an island or continent that sank into the sea or ocean. But what if this conception is mistaken and Atlantis didn't sink below the waves, but was already sunken beneath the Atlantic Ocean?
What if Atlantis wasn't like a regular island like the British Isles or Japan, or a regular continent like Australia, but was more like New Orleans, Badwater in Death Valley National Park, or the Dead Sea in Israel/Jordan but on a vastly larger scale - that is, what if Atlantis was a below sea level land that was nevertheless kept dry by lands surrounding it higher than sea level?
